It’s a deliberate attempt to humiliate, instil fear in and to intimidate the subject. That stories like these spread like wildfire across all media and act as a constant reminder of the gross invasion of the subject’s privacy. It’s telling the videos and photographs released are often of women. That in itself speaks volumes. Those that do this are committing real acts of actual violence.
